Bidirectional charging comes to the Volkswagen Group dealer network in Sweden

Press release

Almedalen, Sweden, 25 June 2026

Energy Bank, MOON and Volkswagen Group Sverige take V2G from pilot to commercial deployment - MOON supplies the bidirectional charger, Energy Bank the software that turns the electric car into a resource for the energy system.

  • Energy Bank, MOON and Volkswagen Group Sverige (VGS) introduce bidirectional charging (Vehicle-to-Grid, V2G) commercially in Sweden from autumn 2026, through the dealer network of Volkswagen, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Audi, Škoda and CUPRA.

  • The solution rests on three parts: the bidirectional charger from MOON, a sister company of VGS within Porsche Holding Salzburg; the vehicles from the Volkswagen Group brands; and the controlling software from Energy Bank.

  • The project has strategic backing from Volkswagen AG, with which Energy Bank has collaborated since 2021.

  • The step is taken from a pilot collaboration to a solution moving into commercial deployment; further details will be communicated after the summer.

Visby. During Almedalen Week, Energy Bank together with Volkswagen Group Sverige (VGS) takes the step from pilot to commercial introduction of bidirectional charging (Vehicle-to-Grid, V2G) in Sweden.

This autumn, the solution – which lets the electric car feed power back to the home and the grid – begins to be offered through the dealer network of the Group’s brands Volkswagen, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Audi, Škoda and CUPRA.

The solution is developed in close collaboration between three parties: the bidirectional charger from MOON, a sister company of VGS within Porsche Holding Salzburg, which supplies charging infrastructure for e-mobility; the vehicles from the Volkswagen Group brands, which already have a large number of cars on the road prepared for bidirectional charging; and the software from Energy Bank, which controls when each car charges, stores or sells power back, and connects vehicle, battery, building and grid.

Christian Jacobsson, CEO, Energy Bank:

This is the moment when bidirectional charging (Vehicle-to-Grid, V2G) moves from promising technology to commercial infrastructure. With MOON and Volkswagen AG as strategic partners, we can bring bidirectional charging to real customers at scale and create value for EV owners, the electricity system and the energy transition.”

From pilot to commercial scale

The collaboration between Energy Bank and Volkswagen AG has officially been underway since April 2021, and during that time the solution has been developed and put into operation at the Stenberg Living Lab in Hudiksvall. The commercial step now being taken means the technology moves from demonstration to a solution that can be offered broadly through the Volkswagen Group’s Swedish dealer network. A scalable and customer-adapted solution is under development, and further details on functionality, launch and offering will be communicated after the summer.
